Environmental Protection Essay Environmental protection is an increasingly pressing issue all over the world. Ozone depletion, green house effect, global climate changes or global warming, etc, are the main issues in environment. Recent years, many countries and various organizations have paid more attention into environmental protection. A treaty about global environmental protection was discussed by 192 nations in Copenhagen in December 2011. But I fell every individual on this earth should make sacrifices to prevent environment changes. Yes it is the need of the hour. We should protect the world for the future generations. Why? It is because of mans greed he has the once beahtiful earth into a rubbish of Earth. He has increased his numbers to terrible proportions, has caused the death of hundreds of species of animals, has robbed and destroyed the planet in his search for fuels; now he stands, like a violent, spoilt child, delighted at the speed of his rise to power, It is he who is on the edge of the final mass destruction and of killing all the life which exists in the solar system. The Earth is our home but much of it is dirty and dying. Rapid industrial development caused a lot of ecological problems. They are: air pollution, water pollution, growth of population and shortage of mineral resources. Air becomes polluted with Cars, trucks, buses, airplanes, factories and plants send burnt gases into the air. The production of electricity causes not only air pollution but acid rains and global warming. Because of acid rains the Earth losses twenty million acres of tropical rainforests every year. This means the extinction of thousands of species that live there, for example tigers. Only 67 thousand tigers remain. Tigers are hunted and killed for their body parts. Ozone layer is destroyed too and the dangerous rays get through the atmosphere causing skin cancer and other diseases. Most of the air pollutants directly affect the respiratory and cardiovascular systems Nitrogen dioxide and ozone also effect the respiratory system, irritate the eyes, nose and throat and headaches. Carbon monoxide is able to displace oxygen in the blood which in turn can result in cardiovascular and neurological effects. Lead affects bone narrow, impairs liver and kidney function, causes neurological damage and also causes mental retardation in children. Oceans are vital for the life on Earth. We need to protect it. They provide homes for millions of plants and animals, provide people with food and help regulate the climate. But now they are a big dumping ground for tons of toxic waste. Most big cities pour their waste into seas and rivers. Water pollution is due to mixture of dirt, sewage and industrial waste , increased use of fertilizers and insecticides that seep through the earth and pollute the ground water As a result, there are numerous health problems like dysentery, cholera and paratyphoid fever. Noise pollution is yet another problem that the researchers say causes ulcers, abortions, cardiovascular diseases and hypertension besides several mental disorders. Checking of environmental pollution has been absolutely necessary. if it is not checked, the earth will become a graveyard. So we must give due attention to protect it from our own abuses. We must have balanced and planned industrial growth in order to check thin pollution. Towns and cities should be planned very carefully and stress should be given on planting of more trees. I would like to dwell on practical measures which must be taken in order to improve the ecological situation: -the factories must be removed from cities; -have balanced and planned industrial growth -purifying systems for cleaning and trapping harmful substances must be widely used; -green zones must be created by planting more trees. -almost everything is recyclable today recycling is a great way to reduce waste. We need clean air to breathe and pure water to drink. So we have to prevent disposal of toxic waste and nuclear tests. I feel formal education programmed should be provided and implemented for the environ ­mental protection We need to conserve resources like water by planting rain water harvest in our houses Earth is the only planet endowed with a beautiful environment for man to live We should pass it on to our future generation as their legacy. Protect our earth today for our children tomorrow.

Consequences of Decisions Made by Characters in Camus The Guest Essay

Undoubtedly, there is always a consequence to every action one makes. â€Å"The Guest,† by Albert Camus illustrates that no matter what choice someone chooses to make, or not to make, someone at some point will indisputably be affected. Throughout the story, each character is forced to make a decision at one point or another that affects someone else. This is best shown through the conflicts of the three characters, the setting, and the irony in all. â€Å"The Guest,† by Albert Camus is set at a school house that is in a secluded desert area. The first character introduced is Daru. This place at this time had just been through a long drought, and is now experiencing an extreme snowstorm. Daru lives better than most in the area, and receives a certain amount of wheat each week for himself. Being a thoughtful man, Daru rations his wheat to the poor village children to bring home to their families during the harsh conditions because none of their families are able to cultivate anything. One day at the schoolhouse, Daru noticed a horse and two men far off in the distance. As these men started approaching, Daru realized that one of the men (the one on horseback) he knew, and the other was an Arab prisoner who is being taken to prison for murdering his cousin because he ran away with his food. Balducci is the man Daru knows, an elderly military man, bringing a prisoner to Tinguit. As the two men came closer, Daru invited them inside to get warm, and then proceeded to make them tea. As they converse, Daru finds that Balducci wants him to finish the journey, taking the Arab to Tinguit. At first Daru thinks that Balducci is joking, when in reality, he is serious. Daru refused to take the Arab, but doe... ...e killed, which in turn will create an outrage among his people. This also will give them the spirit to start fighting for their rights. After all, it is their home; the French are just occupying it, which makes them feel as if they have all of the power. There really is always a consequence to every action someone makes. Camus’ story clearly exemplifies that no matter what choice someone chooses to make, someone else will be affected. As shown, throughout the story, each character is forced to make a decision at one point or another that affects someone else. Balducci’s choice was risky and could consequent in the loss of his job, Daru’s decision to let the Arab choose himself ended well, and the Arab’s decision benefited his people. All three characters, in all different ways, made decisions that resulted in some sort of alternate consequence.

This paper will briefly discuss the marketing strategies of two giant retail department stores, Walmart and Macy’s, in terms of customer buying behaviors. Macy’s atmospheric settings provide strong stimuli for its customers. First, every season, Macy’s puts up different window showcases to demonstrate its classic and artistic tastes. Also, different ambient colors are used in its shopping environment. These seasonal changes should be able to boost the sale of the fashion apparel. Secondly, Macy’s decorates different themes for different holidays, such as Easter, Mother’s day, Halloween, Christmas, etc. the gift shopping behaviors are likely induced by these themes. Thirdly, Macy’s always plays a comfort and light background music, customers would spend more time into shopping with a good mood as the text points out:† People’s moods temporarily affect their spending patterns† (Tanner, J., Raymond, M. & Schuster, C, 2001) On the other hand, it seems that Walmart pays a lot of attention to the shoppers’ personality factors. First, Walmart concentrates on the idea of â€Å"money saving†. Walking into a Walmart, the â€Å"Rollback† tags with two comparing prices are everywhere. The economical shoppers would compare more on the prices. Secondly, customers who prefer one stop shopping might find that Walmart, with its stock of food, toy, auto parts, etc, is more convenient than other shopping centers. Thirdly, Walmart shelves â€Å"as seen on TV† items and dollar items along the cashier to affect the shopping decisions. While waiting in the checkout line, customers are likely to pick up these items as they are categorized as low-involvement products. Moreover, social factors are also well considered by these two retail giants. In terms of social class, Macy’s focuses more on the middle-class families whereas Walmart targets on the customers with standard income. Wal-Mart exclusives have a mean household income of about $57K (Scarborough Research, 2005). Also, the products, Walmart is selling, represent the main stream of a geographical culture whereas Macy’s might satisfy some groups with special subculture interests such as high-end golf clubs or perfumes. In sum, consumer buying behavior is a very important element in the marketing strategies of a company. Situational, personality and social factors will influence the consumer buying behavior dramatically.

We take a close look at the theme of Gods judgement in Shakespeares Richard III.   Ultimate Judgement by God Throughout the play various characters consider how they will be ultimately judged by God for their Earthly wrong-doings. Queen Margaret hope that Richard and Queen Elizabeth will be punished by God for their actions, she hopes that, the Queen will die childless and without a title as punishment for what she did to her and her husband: God I pray him that none of you may live his natural age, but by some unlooked accident cut off.(Act 1, Scene 3) The Second Murderer sent to murder Clarence is concerned with how he will be judged by God despite being ordered to kill this man by someone more powerful than himself he is still concerned for his own soul: The urging of that word ‘judgement’, hath bred a kind of remorse in me.(Act 1, Scene 4) King Edward fears that God will judge him for Clarence’s death:  Ã¢â‚¬Å"O God, I fear thy justice will take hold on me...† (Act 2, Scene 1) Clarence’s son is sure that God will take revenge on the King for his father’s death; â€Å"God will revenge it – whom I will importune with earnest prayers, all to that effect.† (Act 2 Scene 2, Line 14-15) When Lady Anne accuses King Richard of murdering her husband she tells him that he will be damned for it by God: The God grant me, too, thou mayst be damned for that wicked deed. O he was gentle, mild and virtuous.(Act 1, Scene 2) The Duchess of York passes judgement on Richard and believes that God will judge him for his wrongdoing she says that the souls of the dead will haunt him and that because he had led a bloody life he will meet a bloody end: Either thou wilt die by God’s just ordinance ere from this war thou turn a conqueror, or I with grief and extreme age shall perish and never more behold thy face again. Therefore take with thee my most heavy curse, than all the complete armour that thou wear’st. My prayers on the adverse party fight, and there the little soul’s of Edward’s children whisper the spirits of thine enemies, and promise them success and victory. Bloody thou art, bloody will be thy end; Shame serves thy life, and doth thy death attend.(Act 4, Scene 4) At the end of the play, Richmond knows he is on the side of right and feels that he has God on his side: God and our good cause fight upon our side. The prayers of holy saints and wronged souls like high reared bulwarks, stand before our forces.(Act 5, Scene 5) He goes on to criticise the tyrant and murderer Richard: A Bloody tyrant and a homicide...One that hath ever been God’s enemy. Then if you fight against God’s enemy God will in justice ward you as his soldiers...Then in the name of God and all these rights, advance your standards!(Act 5, Scene 5) He urges his soldiers to fight in God’s name and believes that God’s judgement on a murderer will affect his victory over Richard. After he has been visited from the ghosts of the dead he has murdered, Richards conscience starts to knock his confidence, the bad weather he acknowledges on the morning of the battle is seen by him as a bad omen sent from heaven to judge him: The sun will not be seen today. The sky doth frown and lour upon our army.(Act 5, Scene 6) He then realises that Richmond is experiencing the same weather and therefore is not as worried that it is a sign from God against him. However, Richard continues to pursue power at any cost and is happy to continue murdering to this end. One of his last orders before he is killed is to execute George Stanley for being the son of a defector. Therefore the idea of God’s judgement never stops him from making decisions to further his own authority or reign. Shakespeare celebrates Richmond’s victory on the side of God, in Shakespearean society the role of King was given by God and Richard’s usurping the crown was a direct blow against God as a result. Richmond on the other hand embraces God and believes that God has given him this position and will continue to support him by giving him heirs: O now let Richmond and Elizabeth the true successors of each royal house by Gods fair ordinance conjoin together and let their heirs – God if this be so enrich the time to come with smooth faced peace.(Act 5, Scene 8) Richmond does not judge the traitors harshly but will forgive them as he believes is God’s will. He wants to live in peace and harmony and his last word is ‘Amen’
